Migraines are caused by sensitization of the brain’s pain centers, which may be triggered by environmental factors such as bright lights, loud noises or strong smells. These factors may also cause an attack to happen.
Migraine attacks are also more common in children who have a family history of migraine attacks.
In some cases people with migraines have been known to have an aura before the attack begins which includes dizziness, tingling sensations on one side of the body or face, vision abnormalities or flashing lights.
